Cheap, easy to use, and very popular. Plastic is surely popular among manufacturers. But not so much with the public, who starts to turn away from plastic products – a big way! The damage that plastic is causing to the environment is getting too hard to ignore.

Understandably, the public starts to reject PVC product, and prefers natural products, like wooden, bamboo etc. Looking to appease the public, many manufacturers of plastic elements are looking for ways, to use eco-friendly, natural raw materials, or, if not possible, still plastic, but bio friendly version.

What really is PLA plastic?

Polylactic Acid (PLA) is thermoplastic aliphatic polyester produced from natural sources like fermented plant starch, but in most cases – corn.

Plastic cards made with PLA plastic look and feel like standard PVC cards. Their durability is similar, and full CMYK printing on them is also similar to printing on standard cards.

PLA objects can be fabricated by 3D printing, casting, injection molding, extrusion, machining, and solvent welding.

PLA is used in a large variety of consumer products such as disposable tableware, cutlery. It is used for compost bags, food packaging. It is used for upholstery, disposable garments, feminine hygiene products, and even diapers.

Plastic cards produced using a PLA plastic are surely a way to considering. Unfortunately, not everyone is on board with PLA, it is a bit expensive as a raw material. So to avoid additional cost yet still stay eco-friendly, many plastic cards producers are looking for a better, and cheaper solutions.
